Our Parish Priest

Father Andrew Cox His Early Years

Father Andrew was born and raised in Cape Town. He went to school at Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory and High Schools.
After school he did National Service in the Field Artillery in Potchefstroom. When he completed his military service, he did a gap year working for a construction firm in the UK.

Studies Of History And Theology

He returned from the UK and completed Philosophy training at the St John Vianney Seminary in Pretoria. He then went back to Cape Town where he completed a degree in History at UCT. He then returned to the Seminary and completed the Theology degree through the Pontifical Urban University of Rome.

A Priest

He was ordained in 1992 as a Diocesan priest.

He was appointed as curate to the Paarl parish for 2 years, then curate in Somerset West and Hermanus for another 2 years. He then moved to Elsies River for 6 months after which he spent a year in Oudtshoorn at the Afrikaans Apostolate at the Oratory of St Philip Neri for a year.

He was asked by the Archbishop to go to the USA where he spent 6 months preaching to raise funds for the Archdiocese. He came back from the USA and was appointed as parish priest to Wynberg where he stayed for the following 5 years.
The Archbishop then sent him to Belgravia (Athlone) where he served as parish priest for 10 months.

When the Jesuits withdrew their staff member, Fr Rowan, from the seminary in Crawford, he was asked to takeover the position of Vice Rector and Academic Dean. Because of the drop of vocations the permanent staff at the seminary was downscaled, which is when Fr Andrew was appointed parish priest of Constantia.

He carried a number of responsibilities in the Archdiocese. He was Consultor to the Archbishop, a member of the Presbyteral Council, Chaplain to St John Relief Services and Chaplain to Mater Domini.
